Planning a tournament
Setting up a tournament at your venue: how it's played (knockout, league and so on), the prizes, and getting players signed up.
1
What does running a tournament look like, from start to finish?
Set it up, open sign-ups, check people in on the day, make the draw, keep score at each table, and it finishes itself when the final's won.
2
How do I set up a tournament at my venue?
Press Put a tournament on, answer four quick questions (when, how big, the money, the name), then open sign-ups.
3
Knockout, league or groups: which should I pick for my tournament?
Knockout for a one-day tournament. League if you want everyone to play everyone. Groups, then a knockout, if you want everyone to get a few games.
4
How many frames should each match be?
Pick a 'race to' for the rounds and a longer one for the final. Race to 2 means the first to win two frames.
5
How many players can my tournament have?
A knockout can be 8, 16 or 32 players. A league can be 6, 8, 10 or 12. You pick when you set it up.
6
How long will my tournament take?
When you pick a size, Leagology tells you roughly how long a knockout will take with your tables.
7
How do I charge an entry fee for my tournament?
Pick the fee when you set it up. Players pay cash when they arrive, and you tick them off as paid.
8
How much prize money will there be?
It's the entry fees paid on the day, minus a share for the venue if you keep one.
9
How do I split the prize money?
Pick winner takes all, top 2 or a podium, or type in a fixed amount for each place.
10
Who can see my tournament?
Public means anyone can find it. Unlisted means only people with the link. Private means only people you invite.
11
Can I approve each player before they're in?
Yes. Set sign-ups to Approval, and you say yes to each player first.
12
How do I invite players to my tournament?
From your list of players, tick the people you want and press Ask them.
13
How do I tell people about my tournament?
Use Get the word out: message your regulars, post the ready-made words, and print the QR code for the bar.
14
How do I change the date of my tournament?
In the tournament's settings, under Date & time. Leagology doesn't tell your players, so let them know yourself.
15
What do I need to run a tournament: phones, a TV, tables?
A phone for whoever keeps score, the tables you play on, and a Leagology plan or the free trial. A TV is a bonus, not a must.
16
Does my tournament count towards the Leagology Rankings?
You don't switch it on. An 8-ball match counts by itself when it's scored live on Leagology, your plan or free trial is running, and enough players signed up themselves.
17
Can each round of my tournament be a different length?
In a knockout, yes. In Settings, under Match rules, pick how many frames each round is, and the final.
18
Can I put my tournament on hold?
Yes, while nobody's signed up yet. Nobody can sign up while it's on hold, and Leagology doesn't tell anyone, so it's for a series you haven't announced.
19
In a groups tournament, how do the groups turn into a knockout?
When every group match is finished, press Start the knockout. The top two in each group's table go through, and everyone else is out.
